the Crimson reports on Harvard President Laurence Summers's proposal for new campus space in Allston, and reports reactions from various faculty members, some criticizing the plans for "splintering' the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS), especially at a time when research has become increasingly interdisciplinary (physics, chemistry, biology, etc.), a point made by physics prof. Daniel Fisher. Dean Venky is quoted as saying that there may be two DEAS campuses, with applied science in Cambridge and eng'g in Allston. A graphic points out that 500,000 sq. feet of FAS science buildings are set for Cambridge, while another 500,000 needs to be positioned in space and time. Also, they may put the kids (undergrads) across the river. #
